Rohan Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski were downed in the mixed doubles quarter-final of the US Open on Monday by the German-Colombian pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah 6-1, 2-6, 8-10. Bopanna and Dabrowski had won the first set comfortably before the German-Colombian pair showed great resilience to get back into the game and hold their nerve in the tie-break.

In less than 20 minutes, Bopanna and Dabrowski took the first set 6-1. Groenefeld and Farah committed as many as nine unforced errors. They shot back in the second set to set up a nail-biting tie-breaker.

Bopanna and Dabrowski took a 3-0 lead but once again, Groenfeld and Farah dug deep to level the set 4-4. Groenfeld and Farah earned match point and it was the latter who smashed a powerful return from Bopanna's serve to wrap up the win.

Sania Mirza is the last Indian representative remaining in the tournament. She and her partner Barbara Strycova will be competing in the third round of the women's doubles event later in the day.
