The Indian men's and women's teams failed to qualify for the final of the 4 X 400 metre relay event on Tuesday with the men's team being disqualified and the women's team finishing seventh in their heat and 13th overall.
The women's team comprising Nirmala Sheoran, Tintu Lukka, Poovamma Raju Machettira and Anilda Thomas finished seventh in Heat 2 with a total time of 3:29.53. Jamaica, Great Britain and Canada finished in the first three positions respectively. Overall, they finished 13th among 16 teams.
The men's team comprising Muhammad Anas, Kunhu Muhammed Puthanpurakkal, Ayyasamy Dharun and Arokia Rajiv had also finished seventh in their heat and 13th overall with a time of 3:02.24 but were disqualified for improper baton pass, after a review. Overall, Jamaica, United States and Belgium finished in the first three positions.
