Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik is one win away from winning a bronze medal in the women's 58 kg freestyle event after she defeated Mongolia's Orkhon Purevdorj 12-3 in her round 2 repechage encounter.
In a one-sided bout, Malik pulled off a take-down to speed into a 2-0 lead before her opponent levelled the scores. Another take-down gave her a 4-2 lead but she conceded a point due to a passivity error just before the first period ended. However, the second quarter was all Malik's as she pulled off one take-down after another to increase her lead to 6-3 and then used a roll to make it 10-3. Purevdorj was never in the contest as Malik continued to be aggressive in her quest for a bronze medal.
Malik will fight Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova for the bronze medal later on Wednesday. Malik was earlier defeated by Russia's Valeria Koblova who reached the final, giving her a chance of winning a bronze in the repechage round.
