Indian track and field athlete Tintu Lukka failed to qualify for the women’s 800 metre semi-finals of the Rio Olympics on Wednesday after she finished sixth in her heat. Running in Heat 3, the 27-year-old from Kerala started well, but eventually fizzled out towards the end of the race, finishing with a time of 2:00.58. Selina Buchel of Switzerland and Margaret Wambui of Kenya qualified from Heat 3 with a time of 1.59.00 and 1.59.66 respectively.

In her second Olympics after London 2012, Lukka clearly got her strategy wrong and ended up with nothing in the tank during the crucial part of the race. However, she ended up with her season-best time.
