There aren't too many Indians left in the fray at Rio.

PV Sindhu walked into her round of 16 battle against Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying as the underdog. Going into the game, the Indian had a losing record against Tai, and needed to play out of her skin. As it turned out, the 21-year-old Hyderabad shuttler was a picture of dominance as she won 21-13 21-15.

Srikanth Kidambi set the tone for Sindhu's achievement by winning his match at the same stage in men's singles, getting past the formidable Jan O Jorgensen in some style.

But Ravinder Khatri endured a miserable outing in the 85 kg Greco-Roman Round of 16, walloped 9-0 in no time by Hungary's Viktor Lorincz. Another wrestler, Hardeep Singh, gets his journey underway on Tuesday against Turkey's Cenk Ildem.

Wang Yihan has a winning record against PV Sindhu (4-2), but the scars of the 2015 Denmark Open will haunt the Chinese. In that game, the Indian outclassed Wang 21-18, 21-19, playing exquisite badminton, attacking the net and setting up smashes at will. The win against Tai Tzu-ying has given Sindhu a momentum. But Wang, a former World No. 1, comes with a better overall track-record. She clinched a silver medal at London 2012.
