Indian runner Lalita Babar finished tenth in the final of the women’s 3000 metre steeplechase event on Monday. Babar finished with a time of 9:22.74.
Bahrain's Kenyan-born world champion Ruth Jebet won the race with a time of 8:59.77 to bag the gold medal. Kenya's Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi finished second with a time of 9:07.12 to bag the silver. The bronze went to the United States' Emma Coburn with a time of 9:07.63.
Babar qualified for the final of the women's 3000 metre steeplechase event by finishing with the seventh fastest time in the heats on Saturday, becoming the first Indian woman after PT Usha in 1984 to qualify for the finals of an Olympic track event.
