After Saina Nehwal’s shocking exit earlier in the day, all eyes were on Indian shuttler Srikanth Kidambi, ranked 11th in the world, who faced Sweden's Henri Hurskainen on Sunday in his second group stage match. However, there was a change in script as Kidambi outplayed his opponent and registered his second consecutive win at Rio. He beat his opponent 21-6 21-18 to march into the round of 16.
Kidambi was at his best in the first game. He moved with great agility and bagged the game in just 13 minutes. The Swede tried to make a comeback but Kidambi did not budge and bagged the set 21-16.
Kidambi began his Olympic campaign in the men’s singles group with a straight win over Lino Munoz of Mexico on Thursday. Kidambi is the lone shuttler from India in the men’s singles category and is competing in his first Olympics.
