National Award winning lyricist Na Muthukumar died in Chennai on Sunday morning. He was suffering from jaundice, reported The Hindu. A family member told IANS that the 41-year-old lyricist died at his residence and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Muthukumar had written more than 1,000 songs during his career and won two national awards for Ananda Yazhai Meetukiral from the movie Thangameengal, and Azhage Azhagu which was featured in the film Saivam.
Muthukumar had worked as an associate for director Balumahendra before he made his debut as a lyricist in 2000 with the Tamil film Veera Nadai. He later worked with composers like AR Rahman and Ilayaraja. According to Hindustan Times, Muthukumar holds a songwriting record after he penned 103 songs in 2012. Some of his literary works include novel Silk City and a huge collection of poems like Ennai Sandhikka Kanavil Varathe.
Celebrities like GV Praskash Kumar and Kamal Hasan condoled his death. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M Karunanidhi said he was shocked by the sudden demise of the lyricist.
