The Indian men's hockey team surrendered a lead twice to draw 2-2 with Canada in their last group stage match at the Rio Olympics, finishing with seven points out of a possible 15.

Akashdeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh scored the goals for India in the 33rd and the 41st minutes. Canada hit back through captain Scott Tupper, who scored both the goals in the 33rd and 52nd minutes. The Indian forwards, Nikkin Thimmaiah in particular, could not get past Canada's goalkeeper David Carter, who had an inspired game.

The Indians currently occupy the third spot in the group with three points, but could finish fourth if fourth-ranked Argentina draw or win against fifth-placed Ireland. If they finish fourth, they are likely to face current Group A toppers Belgium.

Belgium is followed by Spain in Group A, and India may play Spain if Ireland beat Argentina.
