On Wednesday, Emirates's Boeing 777 skidded off the runway at Dubai International Airport and burst into flames. All 300 passengers on board, including crew, escaped the plane but 13 passengers suffered minor injuries. One firefighter was killed while trying to douse the plane. The plane was arriving in Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and carried 226 Indians on board.

The videos above and below capture the scenes on the runway. The crash was one of the most serious for Emirates, which is considered one of the safest airlines in the world.

Below, an Indian passenger on the plane recounts the ordeal. As the plane was about to land, passengers saw smoke coming from the cabin and the pilot prepared them for an emergency evacuation.

Of course, even in times of emergency, some passengers still worry about the safety of their worldly possessions. At one point, someone in the video below is heard pointing to a bag and saying that there is a laptop in it

Shot by a passenger on the plane (which is itself surprising since everyone was in the midst of an evacuation), the video shows flyers delaying the exit by stopping to remove their overhead luggage.

This is the second big passenger plane crash of the year. In May, an EgyptAir flight from Paris-Cairo descended 37,000 feet killing all 66 passengers on board. New findings suggest that the plane broke up midair after a fire broke out in the cockpit or near it.
